Hi

I'm new to SBS 2003 but have managed to setup a new email account on a SBS which has other existing email accounts.

The new email address can recevie emails without any problems but as soon as someone tries to reply to this they receive the following message:

Your message has encountered delivery problems
to the following recipient(s):

Helenxxxx@xxxxxx.com.au
(Was addressed to Helenxxxxx@xxxxx.au)
Delivery failed after 1 attempts within 0 hours and 0 minutes
550

No recipients were successfully delivered to.

Any ideas what I need to change so this email address can receive emails?

After watching this from afar I would like to offer this advice: Re-run the CEICW, double-checking everything. Apparently something is out-of-whack in your default Exchange setup.

Other than that, perhaps downloading and running the SMTPDIAG tool might help:

I beleive we are hosting the email address as I haven't had to setup anything regarding POP3.

Not quite sure by what you mean by the primary address or just the local one?

I have re-run CEICW a few times now but no change.

POP3:
Open the Server Management Console, advanced management section

Click pop3 connector manager
Open pop3 connector manager
Is there anything set up in the dialog that appears?

Primary address:

Open the Server Management Console
Click users
Double click Helen
Click the email addresses tab
Which address is bold, the .local or the .com.au?

Yes I have an email address setup called global@xxxx.com.au

For the primary address area their is only one email address listed helen@xxxx.com.au (SMTP)

Cool. Looks like you are popping rather than hosting.

Look at the properties of the global to see where you are popping from. Go to their website, log on and create an address for Helen. Alternatively, phone them and ask them to do it for you.

Once that is done, Helen should get external mail.

Ok thanks will try and let you know.

Ok have gone to my domain name provider as were popping from my own domain.

I just have domains with them and a url forwarding service so couldn't create an email box.

I have checked my ISP thinking that it may be forwarded to them and I have the email hosting with them but only seem to have broadband.

Any ideas how to find out who this service is with?

Who is 72.249.49.135 (from above)?

What does mxtoolbox.com tell you ?

It is my domain name xxx.com.au but when I checked my domain name provider their isn't any emails listed or even a hosting service.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood my post above.

Is 72.249.49.135 your IP address, or alternatively the people you are (we think) popping from?

What mxtoolbox.com show as your mailserver IP? Whoever the mx records point at is who you need to contact about the new addresses (Helen etc)

Do you have any systems documentation that you could refer to, or alternatively, get hold of your predesessor ?

Just checked the IP address from server and it isn't it so it is an external server.

Is their a way to see what provider the IP address belongs to.

Don't have any docs to access as the past tech didn't leave on the best terms.

According to Network Solutions, 72.249.49.135 is:
Code:
Colo4Dallas LP COLO4-BLK2 (NET-72-249-0-0-1)
                                  72.249.0.0 - 72.249.191.255
Rochen Limited COLO4-ROCHE-14-020707 (NET-72-249-48-0-1)
                                  72.249.48.0 - 72.249.49.255

What you need to do:

Find out who's hosting xxx.com.au;
Find out who the webmaster is;
Get them to grant you CPanel access to create & modify email addresses; this does not necessarily give you FTP access or website administration, just the ability to create & edit email accounts. This is vital access for SysAdmins when you're POPping email from a host website.

Users helping Users...

Looks like I have found who hosted the cpanel account.

Have contacted them and awaiting reply.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I managed to get all the details and add the email accounts and everything is working really well.

Thanks for all the help.
