I am looking to build a new PC (currently K6-2 266 :( )

I'm interested in a 700 Duron/ThunderBird systems
with an ABIT KT7 and ASUS A7V M/B for potential overclocking.

I already purchased a midtower ATX with 300W ps.

My question is this - What has been your experiences with
these processors and configuring with PC133 memory -
whether it be generic or name brand. Right now I
could get some generic 128 mb for about 70 and
athlon approved for about 130. I'd rather have 256 of
generic if it was all the same to the CPU and M/B.

I'm also sure that having the name brand might be better
for overclocking, but that is not as important to me. [sig][/sig]

I wouldn´t buy name brand if I were you. I always buy original memory. they don´t have any special name/brand (compaq, dell etc.) but they are tested and have life-time warranty. In sweden (at least where I buy my thing) those memory are 10% more expensive but well worth the money.

The other configuration looks fine as far as I can see. Never built a Duron myself but...

If you had a k6-2 before, playing games now will be more then joyful. Don´t forget to buy a good 3d-card. Asus Geforce2 always works.

I built a Duron 700mhz using PC133 RAM and it went together like a dream.
The resulting computer is a very nice system, and the user has had nothing but praise. I don't know about a Thunderbird, but the Duron is a nice chip.

Thanks everyone. Bought athlon approved 128 pc133 memory
and abit kt7 with 600 duron. Overclockable to
990 mhz (110 x 9). Keep it at 900 though just to be safe.
