DSPII supported in your load of 9?

There may be no i in team but there are three f's in fudge off.

If you want to increase the number of voicemail ports, then you need to free up some of the existing DSP resources. You can do that by, A. Adding a 21x6x module, or B. Adding a VEC module.

In your particular configuration, doing A. will allow more dsps for voicemail, doing B. will free up the Echo Canceller dsp for voicemail.

Adding the DSPII module doesn't accomplish this since it only supports Detectors, T38 or G729. It doesn't support regular telephony loads.

One other thing to note, you have a CX/CXi, not the CX/CXi II. If you had the newer CX/CXi II hardware you could get what you want with the modules you have. One of the main differences between the two are the on-board dsps. The old revision has the 21161, the new has the 21363 dsps, as the names suggest, roughly a 3 times performance/capacity improvement.

As per Mitel support, the card is supported once the system is upgraded to release9 but it failed.

Thanks for the information, so i guess i need to replace the module.

just to add info, we install this module to MXe and we don't encounter any probs (same release 8.0)but not on CXi.

You'll need that module only for G729 compression and/or T38. If you don't have either of those, then don't bother. The base MXe has quad 21363s on the mainboard, so adding the DSP II card does nothing for voicemail, the base MXe can already support 16 VM ports.

As for the supported part, as soon as you see it configured in the system (DumpDspBootInfo), it's supported.

I was able to change the voicemail port of MXe to 30 when installed with DSP II module.
I also found on engineering guidelines that only dual or quad dsp is supported for CXi.
Thanks guys.

Christian, According to the guidelines, the base MXe can support 30 voicemail ports. The default is 20, but you can change it to 30 without any additional DSPs.

And yes, I made a slip in terminology, the DSP II card isn't 'supported' on the old CXi, but it will work. But unless you are doing T38 or compression, there is no point.

Thanks IrwinM, were just waiting for the replacement module right now and will post feedback after.
