I'm setting up a brand new DC in a new domain.

My IP structure is 192.168.1.0/24 .Our company already has a .com address that is hosted by our ISP. As an example let's say its acme.com

On the AD New Domain Tree setup window, it's asking me for the Full DNS name for the new domain. I'd like to use acme as the domain name, so would the DNS name be acme.local? If I use acme.com would that somehow interfere with our public domain?

Thanks

your acme.com domain is registered... which DNS server is authoritative for this domain?

You can add a subdomain (internal.acme.com) if you want to keep to the same dns hierarchy, or you can use acme.local.

Avoid using the same domain name internally & externally cos you'll just have a lot of name resolution headaches and extra admin to sort it all out.
