I'll create the new document and I saw the gutter beside the column. What does gutter mean? Do I use it?

Are you making a book? Gutter is defined in the manual.

'Gutter' usually refers to the space between columns if you set up a page with more than one column. If you only have one column per page, gutter is irrelevant.

What jimoblack is referring to is the space between the inside margins of facing pages, but this is not usually what ID means by gutter in the Layout options.
