For ARCservIT 6.61 we used to use a Compaq DLT single tape drive. It has been replaced by a Dell DLT 4000. Restore does not work, though backup does. However backup is meaningless without the ability to restore. I suspect the drive was not installed or configured properly. Does compression need to be a certain ratio? How do I re-install this drive, or do I have to have a Compaq DLT drive for a Compaq system - which wouldnt surprise me. Error commonly is 'Invalid session header signature' or 'Unreadable Media Format'. Backed-up data can be restored on another system without issue. Please help.

hi, seems quite a few have this issue. we had a tape drive that broke down and had to be replaced. it seemed to back-up fine. when we went to retore a couple of weeks ago it wouldn't due to an invalid signature header after session 1.

after reading several posts and trying to update and patch the versions of Arcserve we were using (none of which worked btw) we ended up trying some demo software called "mmpc" (media merge) you can find it at:

this software doesn't seem to have issues with the file headers. hope it works. otherwise check out the rest of the posts in this forum as there are other solutions around (though none of which worked for me)

good luck

1-try to backup and restore using ntbackup utility and check if it working fine.

2-you need to fo to support.cai.com and go to arcserve page and check if the DLT 4000 is listed as a certifed tape drive or not make sure also the firmware you have is same or lower the the certifed one.

cheers
