Hello, I am having an issue installing a new sound card. Windows recognizes the new audio device, the LED's on the card are lit, but when trying to run the setup program I am prompted to install the card.

I have done various steps to try to troubleshoot this, and have contacted the manufacturer but they are extremely slow in responding.

The general question that I have to see if anyone can answer is that while researching this, I noticed that when running the Windows XP Device Manager, and Viewing Devices By Connection, I am seeing the Multimedia Audio Controller sharing the same PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge with a OHCI Compliant IEEE Host Controller.

Is that normal or would that possibly cause software not to recognize the card?

Thanks in advance.

but when trying to run the setup program I am prompted to install the card

and - what do you do? Are you saying the setup doesn't continue?

Windows recognizes the new audio device

how do you know this - does it come up with found new hardware wizard?

What is the make/model of the sound card?

For the last post, it is a Razer Barracuda AC-1.

I know that Windows is picking it up because when the machine is booted I am shown the New Hardware Found balloon in the system tray and then prompted asking if the system is permitted to check online for driver updates. I say no, and get into the wizard to allow Windows to search the drives for a driver or to manually select it.

The manual with the card says to cancel this portion, but I have tried going through it to see if it can find a driver..it does not.

When using the sound cards installer, after the error message appears saying to "Plug in 'Razer Barracuda AC-1 Audio Card' and install driver again" the installer closes.

I just recently tried moving the card from the upper to the lower PCI slot (there was very little room at the bottom of the case, I was reluctant to do this but figured I should try) and Device Manager is now seeing the device as a Multimedia Audio Controller in PCI Slot 6, PCI bus 8, device 7m, function 0.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Here's the driver you can download:

You have to extract the files from the ZIP to a temporary folder. Use the Windows installer again, but this time, point it to the folder where you extracted the driver. Voila!

Interesting! Right now the card is out of the case but I will try that this afternoon. Thanks! (hopefully, hah)

ok I tried that and I dont think its going to work unless I am just confused (possible). The zip file contains an EXE setup program, not actual drivers. The setup does try to unpack many files when you run it (before the error) message but I am unsure how I would get those extracted from there. I tried using winzip on it but it says it is not a standard self extracting zip file. Any ideas? Thanks.

nevermind...I found a program that did this...and the drivers were picked up. now I think I am on my own to somehow get the applications and configs working. Thanks a lot of the help, I THINK I am going in the right direction now.
