I am looking at Citrix for a solution for us.

Given your Citrix knowledge, does it seem resonable to get 640 users running an application that takes 10 megs of memory on the following system:

Power Edge 1850
Dual 2.8 Xeons
8gig of RAM
2 10/100/1000 NICs bridged into gigabit switches

Any thoughts?

640 users on one server? It's not likely. Memory isn't the only resource that has to be shared on a server, and your app isn't the only thing that uses memory. We have an app that take between 10M and 20M RAM, and on our biggest server we can get about 50 users. Our biggest server is a HP DL380 Dual 3.4 with 4G RAM.

i have the same server but only 4gig of ram and it's used by 80 people. hosting citrix, microsoft CRM and office and what a turtle its been.

we'recurrently replacing our farm

using dl360's 4 gb ram - probably 200 users
we are going to put 7 servers in

Are you all using Citrix 4.0? The app we post gets its data from a completely different server and little to no CPU usage is used on our machines. Is there a good rule of thumb to follow for user connections to server?

Thanks for all the info!

20-25 users per processor.

There is no way on earth that 640 users on one server is your answer. I dont care if it only loads 10Mb per user. You are asking for serious trouble for that. My guess is you might be wanting at least 4 servers for this. My sizing would be looking at probably 10 servers minimum. Try a pilot and see what response you are getting.
