This will be the 5th comp i've built within a year, and this has never happened to me before: i flick the switch, everything sounds ok, but no video. Not even a BIOS beep. Hard drives are spinning, all fans are moving, but i get no video through either the onboard vga or GPU. system specs:
600w psu
P4 650 3.4ghz
2g ddr2 667 ram
ati x1800 pci-e gpu
2 200gb sata seagate HD's
standard pci soundcard and modem, ide dvd/cd r/rw

ive tried starting it up with nothing attached, and pieced it all back together, but still nothing. Im thinking maybe a bad(missing?) BIOS but wouldnt i still get some sort of error message? everything i try turns out with the same thing....any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it possible your board is grounded? Try setting up outside your computer with just the board and bare essentials.

xit's idea is a good one on any build. Before putting it in the case try it on the workbench.

The answer is "42"

yeah, thats about the only thing i havent tried...thanks for the tip

well, set it up without the case, and still nothing :/ the cpu&mobo were tested before shipped to me, it'd be kind of weird for the mobo to be bad...

Have you missed any of the additional power connections? Modern motherboards/graphics cards not only have the traditional Intel 12v 4pin, many have a 6pin/molex/or even a floppy type additional connector on the motherboard.
The graphics card may also need a seperate PCIe 6pin feed.

Is the power supply compatible? does your motherboard require the latest version 2.0 24pin type to work correctly?
It is also possible you have a faulty power supply unit (down on one rail)?

Try just one stick of ram (read manual, this may not be in slot one)
Reseat graphics card
Clear the cmos
Only connect the bare minimum

Hi again
It just occured to me that it might be the motherboards bios not supporting this relatively new CPU.
A bios flash may cure the problem but obviously if this is the issue you will have to install an earlier CPU in order to get to the point of flashing.
Check on the motherboard manufacturers website, bios version against supported CPU (microcode)
