Hi All,

I just built an almost 100% new PC. I took the old PSU (520 watt, plenty of power for this build) and DVD drive from my old pc, everything else is new.

After I put everything together I tried to turn it on and got power for a fraction of a second. Just long enough to flash the lights on the PSU and the fans. No smoke, pops, or strange smells. After that I don't get anything from pushing the power button. I do still get some lights on the mobo itself when the PSU is on.

I did what little trouble shooting I could and after taking the power supply out and putting it back into the original PC, it does the same thing, power to mobo, but won't power the rest of the pc.

I figure my PSU is bad. Now to the question.

I am wondering if there is something that I could have done or if there could be some other faulty part that fried my PSU. I have another PSU on order and would hate to install it just to have it fry as well.

Thx very much for any ideas.

Sometimes there actually are simple solutions to complex problems....

My first thought would be check the wires and the mobo to make sure you are not grounding/shorting any connections. Add rubber grommets to the mobo feet if you have to (cheaper than a PSU by far).

Other than that, if you have a multimeter, you can ensure that power is being relayed throught the system.
