Hello Everyone,

I recently had a 400 that failed to upgrade from 3.7 to 4.0 and I am in the process of installing new hard drives. Ordered two new drives from nortel, installed and tried to boot. After reading other threads, I see that you have to initialize the drives. Tried to telnet in but it seems that is not working. Next I tried to connect via serial port with a Null Modem cable... still nothing. After applying power to the box, I can watch the boot process and it just sits at the WINNT blue screen.

At what point should I be able to connect via serial port or is there some other trick to installing the new drives?

Any ideas are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Clyde

You do not need to initialize 4.0 hard drives. If you are watching it on a monitor you will not see any change after the first 30 seconds. You can watch the boot process via the serial port, keep in mind that on the initial startup with a new hard drive the system may restart a couple of times before it comes up and is functional. The most common problem with a hard drive upgrade from a pre 4.0 version is that the auto core upload fails which means that the linux side of the system cannot see the telephony side. Some times this can be resolved by applying a system update, but occasionally it will default the telephony programming.

Thanks for the info Rick.

This is currently a 3.7 platform that will eventually get upgraded to 4.0 I know, why not just install a 4.0 drive. Well we payed for an upgrade license, not a transfer license for the keycodes.

Anywho... troubleshooting 101 Check your Cables. I had a bad Null Modem Cable.

Replaced and am now about 25 minutes into initializing the Universal Platform. System rebooted twice so far. Still monitoring.

Does anyone know at what point the system will be accessable via Ethernet port? Patience is not one of my virtues.

Still attending the SHK.....

Thanks everyone!

5 or 6 reboots are needed to complete the initialization(about 30-35 minutes).Once at 6.2 showing complete you will be able to access thru the LAN ports.
Have you changed the date back to 01-01-2008(ex..)prior to run the initialization? If not you won't be able to access the bcm thru unified manager.
You have the choice to change the date and re-run the initialization or run the apache fix available on Nortel website if you're a partner.
