I am looking into getting a professionally recorded announcement done and not sure what format I need to ask for to load this on a Val board.

Looking at several old threads similar to this I see others of you are doing this. How do you get yours done so you can move them to your Val Board without problems?

Thanks Mike

Val manager will save and load WAV files. Have them supply a WAV. I then load VAL Manager and the Software will load it. You first create the Announcement on the board. Make sure the name is exactly the same as the WAV file.

It's been a while since I did this I don't think I missed a step.

If I did Someone will correct me.

Hope this helps

You will need to ensure that the wave file is converted to the correct bit rate (usually 16, 32 or 64 Kbits/second) before transferring onto the VAL board.

The higher the bit rate the better it sounds essentially.

Thanks for the quick replies. What steps do I need to convert the bit rate to 64KBS before I load it? Val Manager won't do the conversion for me??

CCITT u-Law 8.000 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono is what we use. I convert files with the sound recorder on my pc under accessories/entertainment

donbott,

try using a free tool called audacity to do the conversion. i was amazed to hear the difference between files converted by default windows sound recorder and audacity. sound recorder sucks like crazy.

I will also look for it brother.

Thanks for popping in..

Good morning all. I received the wav. file this morning and edited it using audacity. I have Val manager to load the files on the boards at startup and it found the new announcement. But when I dial the announcement on the board I get a busy signal. Apparently I did load something up the way the Val board wants it. I have been playing with this for two hours now and not really sure what I didn't do.

Any ideas??

Thanks for the help. I will be able to do it after I get through this first one. If I can get through this first one...

I've had problems uploading wav. files to my board.
Well the guy I replaced had problems uploading the files to the board.
We didnt even get a busy tone, the val board just dismissed the files after we uploaded them. There was no trace of the wav. files after an upload.

What I did was just record my announcements via the phone.
I've seen someone place a headphone to a phone reciever to record hold music/announcement.

This is not a solution however it is a work around till you get the files to upload (if your in a pinch).

What do your Val Manager Logs show? Did it actually successfully copy to the VAL Board? I have had issues before if the .wav format wasnt exactly correct, it would look like it worked, but not actually have copied correctly to the VAL.

mikeydidit: I just moved an announcement from the PC to the Val Board.

1 Val Manager opened the val board.
2 Val manager pulled the entire card
3 in the lefthand pane I clicked on the board address 02b03
4 right click and clicked on copy delete audio files
5 two windows come up left is the PC right is val board.
6 clicked the new wav file on the pc and pressed the > key
7 file moved all ok.
The names of the wav must match the announcement name.

Worked well.

hope this helps

I tried that Ed and it doesn't seem to like the format or something. It tries to download the file and comes back in the log with errors. Then looking on the board it doesn't move it.

I was able to change the format like Donbott suggested in sound recorder and load the file on the board. It sounds bad with sort of a hiss while she is speaking. Maybe I am being too picky I don't know but the audacity is not helping me much.

Still trying though. Thanks for trying to help.

Mike: I had a problem like this and it turned out to be the file I was trying to load was Au-Law format. The val manager needs it to be Mu-Law. Also make sure that the PBX allows File xfer see below from the list history:

10/03 14:10 MAINT eddie disa filexfer board 02B06
10/03 14:10 MAINT eddie enab filexfer
10/03 14:09 MAINT eddie logn
10/03 14:08 PHONE annc del recorded-ann 82771 EXT 85910
here you see me delete the announcement via phone then load it via Val Mgr.

Hope this helps

dwalin i've downloaded the audacity but it doesn't have a way to export the fil in Ulaw 8000 hz sample format that the val requires.
Probably i'm missing something can you provide some direction?
thanks,

I like using the free application wavepad, created by a company called NCH Software.

I use it to record and convert all of my annonucements. Works great, definately has the u-law 8000 hz you need. I used audacity as well, but liked wavepad more, just a personal preference.

I also use it to control volume and make sure that all of my annonucements are the same, using the Normalize feature.

Make sure to download the free verson. About 1/2 way down the manufacture's product webpage.

For this one I ended up using Goldwave. It was really easy to use and the people that recorded my announcement also used it for their editing. Worked out very nice.

And BTW. This announcement is taking around 300 calls an hour during busy times and has not used up all its resources once.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
