New 7800GS installed and PC will not boot

System Specs:
MSI KT6 Delta MB
470W PSU
Windows XP Pro SP"
XP3000+ CPU
1GB RAM
OLD Vid card: Radeon 9800SE AIW - works fine just too slow for today's top games

I buy an AGP 7800GS and connect it all up(including the power cable to the video card). Turn on the PC - it gets as far as the part of the post where you can "Press DEL to enter setup" and won't go any further. If I press "DEL" the display says "Entering Setup" but never actually gets there. If I take the card out and put the old one back everything works fine.

I looked into updating the BIOS but the newest version (one version after the one I've got) is datad 11 2004 so I doubt that it'll make much difference (Plus I don't have enough PSU connectors to plug in the floppy frive so I can't boot to DOS and install the new BIOS anyway).

Any suggestions gratefully received. Is the card borked or is my MB not happy with the card? I don't see the PSU being the issue as the specs recommend a 350W suply and mine is 470W...

Help Please!

DS

Make sure the new video card is fully seated, and does not raise out of the slot at the end opposite the hold down screw when the screw is fully tightened.
If that's ok, then see if the card works in another system. If not, then it may be bad.
If it works in another system, then either it may not be compatible with your MB, or your PS may be a non-brand name unit that does not have sufficient punch to run the new video card.

Thanks Ski

The PSU was highly rated when I bought it - its by SuperFlower. The card is definitely seated - the slot's got one of those retainer clips in it that will only close when the card is in place.

I'm going to have to bring the card to work tomorrow and test it in one of our PCs

Haven't had the chance to test the card in a newer system
but I have done the following:
New PSU installed and whispering away..
MB BIOS updated to latest (admittedly two years old) version.

Still no joy from the card. Is there a way to find out if it's an MB compatibility issue without trying another system? It's going to be awkward getting hold of one.

If it is an MB issue then I guess I need to look into changing the whole system - which will cost me a great deal of (UK) money.

The annoying thing is that the only thing that is stopping me from having a decent (for gaming) system is the video card but to upgrade the video I'm now going to have to upgrade the mb and the cpu just so I can get a decent card...

If Consoles came with keyboards I'd probably switch to an XOBX 360 right now

PS I guess the card could be borked - what's the likelihood of a borked card producing these symptoms?

OK - problem solved. The card was borked. I sent it back and got a refund, (they had no replacements in stock) bought an XFX Extreme version of the same card - worked first time!

Thanks for everyone's help, I was convinced my mobo was at fault, thankfully not the case!

You're welcome.
Glad to hear that you solved the problem.
