I have recently installed a High Speed Internet server and am running it through a workgroup hub to two computers. Everything works great and I'm more than satisfied with the speeds achieved.
However, there are a few issues I need help with:

1. During boot up, I'm asked for a Microsoft Network password. Is there a way of defeating this screen or is there somewhere I can ‘check' "remember password?"

2. Since the network was installed, the boot up has slowed down considerably. My HS support technician suggested there was a setting in ‘Network' that would fix this but they would not elaborate (they don't support networking), and I can't find anything.

1. The reason you're being prompted for a network password is simple. If you go to your network properties, there is option under the Add/Remove/Properties buttons that says Primary Network Logon. Set it to windows logon so it never prompts you for a password again. If it still asks you for a password, that probly means you set one. After you log in, go to Star>Find>Files or Folders and search for *.pwl. These are your password files. Delete them all. Reboot. It will probably ask you for a password, but don't set one, leave it blank with whatever user name and press enter. It won't prompt you again.

2. I'm fairly knowledgeable in networking, but I don't know of a setting in network properties to decrease boot time. I've never heard of such a thing. All I know is that installing a network card always slows down the bootup. Sometimes though, if it's extremely lagged, i've found the drivers were usually corrupted, and re-installing them improved bootup time.

Please let me know if any of this has helped you. Good luck

What network protocols are you running? Depending on the OS, a default load could include Netbeui, Nwlink, and/or TCP/IP.

Determine which protocol(s) you need and remove the rest.

I think I've licked the password issue, using the above advice and Tweak.UI.
However, I'm unable to reduce the boot-up time, in fact it seems to be getting worse.
I've removed the "dial-up" protocols, not needed with DSL, but all the rest are related to the HS modem or the Network card and hub. I guess I'l just have to live with it!
The time I lose on boot-up I sure get back with High Speed access.

Thanks for your help........ This is a great Forum and I'm sure I'll be back
