I have a network of several old computers. It consists of three Windows 95 machines and one Windows 98 machine. Recently, I added an XP Home machine to it. The machines are connected via a hub that does not distribute IP addresses. They are all operating in the same workgroup. The 98 and 95 can still all see eachother. The XP machine can only see itself. How do I get the XP machine to see the others?

Enable Netbios over TCP/IP under the WINS tab of TCP/IP Properties for the adapter.

What network protocol were you using on your existing LAN?

Because nothing is assigning IP addresses, I'm going to guess netbui. If this is true, you can add netbui to the xp machine. Look in the valueadd folder on the xp cd.

My guess is that the 95/98 network is using netbui which is not available under XP. You can install it seperatly. There is a folder on the xp cd that has the files for netbui in it. I would recomend however that you convert the older machines to tcpip and use a 192.168.1.X numbering scheme with a mask of 255.255.255.0. Tcpip is more efficent and is the propocol of choice
