Hi there, I work for part of a team rolling out Win2k server and XP workstation based networks in Germany.

We are having this crazy problem at one of our sites over here. Pretty sure it's a networking issue but we've replaced NIC's, changed cables, ports on switches, checked network configuration etc.

The problems seem to occur when users are trying to access and save things like Word docs or Access databases to and from the file server. Users are receiving the following error message.....

Windows - Delay Write Failed - Windows was unable to save all the data for file \\Servername\share\user\doc.tmp. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or a network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

Everything else seems fine really except and this is weird: when you logon to the server occasionaly when these problems are being reported, as an admin or whatever, the shared drives have red crosses over them and you can't access them. :-(((

Like I said, we've checked all obvious things and are at the pulling our hair out stage at the mo! Please help.

what if you try to create and save docs directly on the file server? like load word on there. i had that error message locally today and it was a a bad hard drive issue. run chkdsk on the file server drives.

Hi, thanks for getting back.

Ran a checkdisk on the server, seems fine. This issue is weird, its the red cross on the drive thats freaking me out!

When logged onto the server, you cant even copy files onto the drive. Dont know where to turn next really!

May just rebuild the server once Im sure its not a networking issue! :-(((
