I am trying to restore a file from a CIFS share from NetApp and I recieve this error message:

16278:winworkr: NDMP retrieval: cannot launch nsrndmp_recover command

Anyone have any suggestions how to solve this issue?

Do you have the appropriate "remote access" rights ?

We have these as remote access rights:

backup1
backup1.x.net
swekakadm@*
netapp1
netapp1.vms.x.net
user=swermeadm,host=netapp1
user=swermeadm,host=netapp1.vms.x.net
swermeadm@x.net
swermeadm

But we stil gets the same error, do we need to specify any netapp user or what does it not like?

As you want to recover from a Windows GUI, a NetApp user would not do the job. You must specify the Windows user at the filer client resource.

Otherwise, i do not have any clue except that the command itself is not available.

Iam not 100% sure what you mean by "specify the Windows user at the filer client resource" if you mean on the CIFS share

The user we have to backup volumens on the netapp is user
ndmpuser on the netapp system. And all backup works but not restores, the funny is that it had worked before and as usual noone has done any change but it doesnt work anymore to do a restore.

And this is specified in remote access:
ndmpuser@*
administrators@netapp.domain.net (the win user on the cifs share)

Is there any good document on ndmp with Networker? What to think about etc..

From the manual 7.5:

5. On the Apps and Modules tab, complete the following attributes.
a. For the Remote Access attribute, list all computers that will store and retrieve
entries for the client. In addition, list any computer that is used to browse
entries for the NDMP computer. Since the NetWorker server stores the client
file index entries for the NDMP computer, be sure that administrator@server is
listed.

We found the root of the problem.
I thought i'd just share in case anyone else stumble upon this error/problem.
We discovered after intense troubleshooting that we couldn't execute the nsrndmp_recover command manually.

@Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin\nsrndmp_recover.exe was for some reason corrupt or modified.

nsrndmp_recover.exe was at 0kb

So the solution was simply to copy nsrndmp_recover.exe from one of our other backup servers - which had been working all along.

Which solved the problem.
