Hello once again.

In talking with our different service providors for connectivity, our local cable company seems to think that they could get us a 10 mbit fiber p-t-p link cheaper than what we currently pay for our T1. They also believe that we should be able to network our two PBX's over this ethernet/fiber connection.

Is this possible with the Magix? What sort of cards/converters/bridges, etc would we need to achieve this?

Thanks once again in advance.

Bryan

Nevermind. I found a previous post that deals with my question. Sorry for wasting space! :)

I have done this once. In the town that I used to live, they installed a large fiber ring around the whole city. One of my customers has two R7V14 Legends networked together using this fiber. The provider was able to emulate a Point-to-Point between these two buildings using there equipment. It has worked stable for 4 months now and doesn't seem to have a problem. Upon installing this I did run into a problem where my D-Channel was bouncing up and down every two seconds. THey built the Point-to-Point as a "voice circuit" instead of a "data circuit". When I told them that I was emulating a Point to Point PRI, they reconfigured it in their equipment, everything was fine. Good Luck

Thanks BigWill. That's a good piece of information to have.

Hi again all.

Previously I stumbled upon a post regarding networking magix via fiber, using media converters such as Transition T1/E1 converters.

I just spoke with the network engineer at the cable company which is proposing our fiber solution. Turns out the fiber would be handed off to us as an ethernet connection via a Cisco switch.

Could our two magix systems be networked via ethernet, or would we need to break out the fiber, using T1/E1 converters?

Thanks again for all of the help guys. It's sincerely appreciated.

I've done this successfully a number of times with the RAD IPMux-11. Essentially it is UDP encapsulated TDM; UDP because it has less overhead than TCP, and encapsulated to preserve the traffic and protocol end-to-end.

It presents an Ethernet interface for the WAN and a traditional T1 interface for your PBX. Programming is done through a serial craft port and is pretty straightforward for circuit emulation (which is what you're doing).

There's a nice overview of the product at
