We are running Windows 2000 Server with a mixture of Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro & 98 workstations. I have two problems that are giving me fits and I hope someone can offer some insight.
Problem #1: Everyday one of our XP Pro workstations loses all network traffic to the servers and Internet. Sometimes this will happen 2 or 3 times during the day. The network connection icon on the task bar shows it is still connected and flashes like there it is still "talking" but there is absolutely no ability for e-mail, mapped drives, Internet, etc. We have to disable then re-enable the connection in network connections then everything is OK.
I have replaced the NIC and cable, scanned for viruses, adware & spyware but nothing helps. Also, for what it's worth, Outlook 2000 will not close on this system. When exiting Outlook it hangs at "please wait while Outlook exits". We have to end the process in Task Manager.
Problem 2:
About once a week, another XP Pro workstation user is unable to log in to the network. He gets an error that there is no domain controller available or his account was not found. To resolve this, I have to log into his local machine, make him a member of a workgroup, reboot then add him back to the domain. Although this is a remote user, when I check Active Directory on all servers his computer and account are there.
Any help with this issues is appreciated.
Thanks!
