network switches and HEAT 1

Hello,

Did a search but nothing specific enough for me.

I have a room of 4 8-port linksys switches, modem,wireless router, and a 24-port switch in a 5'x10' room with a vent on the door, ambient temps at around 70F

How likely is it that the heat can cause some or all of these switches to "crap out"? One of the switches is a layer 3 and routes data between each of my 4 vlans. Everythign works fine until suddenly a couple switches stop working and need to be rebooted so that connectivity is regained.

Any ideas about heat and switches?

70 degrees isn't hot, by any stretch. Unless, of course, there is no circulation, especially within the devices. Check to make sure all the internal fans are working, and that there is nothing preventing the free circulation of air around the devices in question. You might want to relocate the offending devices in the rack, to see if the problem follows the device, or manifests in the equipment that replaces it (them).

Thanks for the insight. Yes, there is no circulation in this room and I suggested getting a stand fan to help with that, especially since there aren't any major servers in there. Just a network closet.
