Hello,

We have a printer attached to a computer that is then shared so other users can print to it. The issue we have is disconnecting on reboot. I can browse to the printer then use admin username and password to connect to the computer. When connected to the computer I can then see the shared printer to "Connect To". This method seems to work until the pc connecting to the printer via the network is rebooted. After the reboot, the printer is still listed in printers and faxes, but I cannot connect to it.

Unfortunately, I cannot connect the printer at the server level.

Is there a better way of connecting to the printer so that it will reconnect after reboots and not have to use a second username to validate?

Cheers

Sounds like the share permissions on the computer that's sharing the printer aren't set properly. You should go to the share permissions and make sure that everyone is allowed to connect to the printer (not just via the admin username/password).

Good luck,

lhuegele,

I tried looking at the share settings on the printer, but it would not find any domain users. It only shows the current computer. I thought maybe I could set group permissions for Domain User, but that option is just not available.

I don't know if a reboot would help make the domain visible or not.

Cheers

Sounds like that machine may not be a member of the domain. Did you confirm that it's is a domain computer? Did you try removing and re-adding it to the domain?

I did migrate it to the correct domain. I might have to redo that at a slow time.

I will do that and then post back with my results...

Thanks!

Cheers

Ok, so I checked the workstation. It is on the correct domain and after a reboot I still couldn't set permissions for anyone but user accounts on the computer. None of the other domains would show up.

Cheers

Try entering the domain users group from your domain to the permissions manually like this:

<domain name>\domain users

Good luck,

lhuegele,

I am pretty sure that would work if the option was available. Currently, I am just having the users manually map to the printer and authenticate. I might just run a script here in the future.

Cheers
