User has Windows xp pro on their pc. They are authenticating to a Windows 2003 Standard Server running Active Directory. When they change their password due to expiry rules, they have to disconnect and reconnect all their mapped drives and also re-log into their Outlook when they start it up for the first time after the pw change.

Once they do this, they do not have to do this until the next pw change. Why is the network not passing the new password to all the user's resources?

We have Exchange Server, SQL Server 2000, a Terminal Server, File Server, WebServer. The SQL server has a 2nd instance of the Active Directory.

Thanks in advance for any help.

if i get it correct once the user chages the password it creates a new profile on the local machine ?

I will try my best to help others so will others do!!!!!

Don't think there are any new profiles being created as their desktop settings are all retained. Just the exisiting links to the network resources - specifically Exchange and any mapped drives doesn't let the user in without typeing in userid and password to the resource. The map drives just need to be remapped everytime.

Maybe I can try to have the user re-create this and do a screen print. But basically, user changes password, and then has to log in again when user opens Outlook. The map drives just do not let the user in, and has to remap the drive.

It sounds like to me that the change has not updated to all the domain controllers. Or there is and issue with your other servers authenticating to the domain controllers. Try running dcdiag /v and see if it reports any errors.

Is there a login script that maps the drives or is the user manually mapping their drives? If manual, is the user checking the persistent checkbox?

I agree with w33mhz.When you make any changes like passowrd changes on domain it triggers replication between all the DC in the doamin. Run dcdiag to see any errors.
Also use replomon tool to see how is replication being done means from one DC to another. If necessary you can force replication using the same tool.
