Saving large quark files across a network seems to corrupt documents on random occasions. Is there anything that can be done to resolve this problem? Apart from saving to HDD first.
Thanks
Quark is not a great network savvy application. It does not like having files opened across the network. It creates 72dpi previews of files when they are imported and remembers where the originals are.
THings to do.. Set the autosave feature to save the documents at intervals that is compatatble with your workflow. Possibly set autoback feature with a number of revisons that will let you have a number of documents saved throughout the day. ie if you set autosave to every 15mins and a autoback to 5 revisions every 15 mins the quark file backs up and revision 1 is saved after another 15 mins revision 2 is saved until it get to revision number 5. This is your last revision, after the next 15 mins revision 1 is overwritten. Therefore after 1.5 hours any corruptions are written to revision 1..
hope this helps...
Might be worth looking into QPS.. this is Quarks true networking product.

hi

As the Quark is not good at working on network, i suggest u to save a copy of document on ur computer,
then do all the changes and manupulation on that document when ur done with it then go and save it back to the network.
b'cos Quark is not so good at network,
In fact when u work on network it will slow down ur QuarkXPress working and it could hang also in between so best recommneded is to work on ur own computer and then save it back to the network

Well what Minna and Ken have written is correct. QuarkXPress is not that reliable over a network. People often face problems like End od File error or some other error when working with QuarkXPress over a network. So the best workaround is to save the file on your local hard drive and then move/copy it onto the network drive.

Since, many a times QXP files are too heavy and QXP does not create a temp file and works directly with the original file(leave besides the images), its not n/w savvy and large files being transfered and made changes into over a n/w can get ur n/w into a toggle aswell as to ur file.

better u go with the suggestions made earlier.

or Wait for 6.0; maybe that solves!!

Dear, Quark Application is not made complient for the network environment. Please try saving file to HDD before updating/saving the original file residing on the server.
