Hi!
Hope someone can help me with the following problem:
I have a 2003 SBS with sp2, 1 NIC. When I try to join a computer to the domain or even just copy data from the server to the client machine, the network drops. This means that it loose contact with the network without any error messages - even the physical connection seems fine - the icon down right is still present showing the machine as connected.

Anyone have a clue what this migt be caused by?

Hi!

I have now tried to copy from client to server, it happens the same then - after a few Mb, the server loose connectivity...

Ok, when you say the server looses connectivity, what exactly happens?

For example does the users Outlook tell them Exchange isn't avaliable / is disconnected?

If you are logged into the server directly when the data is being copied to it, does it lock up or freeze? Can you click on the Start Menu and does it respond ok?

what happens is that when I run cmd and ping's another machine, it stops replying when the connectivity drops (Request timed out).
I had the Server up running for 48 hours with no dataload working just fine, but as soon as I tried to transfer data to/from the server it drops.

As a result of this problem I have not been able to join any computers/users to the domain, therefore I have not tested this in other ways than just logging on to the network folder and copying files/folders which I have access to remotely on the LAN.

When it comes to the rest of the server - everything looks and works appearently as normal, no lock ups or freezing... It responds just as normal.

I have now moved the Server to another site with different computers/switches etc., but still the same error. I have also tried to mount an additional NIC (I used the OnBoard one first), but still the same - so I'm pretty sure this is not hardware-related...

Hi, I'm quite embarrased to tell you this, but when I tried with new drivers on the NIC everything worked just fine (so it was the SBS2003-drivers for this Realtek NIC that was not good...)
Anyway, thanx for helping me out on this one! :)

I always suspected hardware...but then you mentioned that you tried an alternate NIC, so I kept my mouth shut. Glad you sorted it AND that you posted the solution.
