Does anyone know how to get a "description" added to a Win2K machine so when others open Network Neighborhood they not only see the Win2K machine nake but the details as well.
In Win98 its under the Identification Tab of the network properties. Its called Computer Description and is at the bottom. But in Win2K its no where to be found. I have some Win2K machines with the computer names listed but I need to put the Users name in details to make it easier to know which PC belongs to who. ANY IDEAS???? James Collins

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties/Network Identification/Properties...that's the only way I know to do that...you have to rename the computer (we use the user's login name by default).
Hope this is what you meant...:)

Sorry. We use a specific naming scheme for our PC's. I need a description for the users name. The computer name is the position the PC is located at. James Collins

butchrecon,

Sure, open Computer Management (local), R-click said icon and enter Properties. Open Network Identification tab and Description should be visible.

you've help a lot of people in the past, glad to be able to return with possive results. C Ya! -md

Just in case "To open Computer Management, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management."

Madddogtech,

Thanks for the help. I never knew that. That just goes to show that no one can know everything. :)
I do not claim that bar far. Where did you find that info at? I have 3 books on Win2K Pro and none of them state that.

Thanks James Collins
