Problem:
The server sees all other PC's and can access drives shared.
The win98 machines see all other pc's and server and can access their drives but not on the server. when double clicking the server message pops up....
"you must supply a password to make this connection"
\\dis\IPC$
dis is the name of the server
There is no password set for this drive.
I tried all my passwords that i use regularly within the win2000 (ex logon)
The drive is shared, mind you there is no little hand on the c drive its self (weird my cd rom drives and floppy do)

Hope my situation is clear...please let me know what I forgot to do...

Thanks Josh Maxwell

i am confused what you are trying to do ?

are you trying to access the server ?thru hidden shares ?
are you using Win NT server ?
do you have a domain created and account created ?

are your windows 98s loging on as domain or workgroup ?

thanks,
from within the win 98 pc's the windows 2000 server is visible in the network neiborhood. when I try and access its contents which are shared, access to everyone i get the message " "you must supply a password to make this connection"
\\dis\IPC$
dis is the win2000 server computer name so there's like something somewhere probably within the servers settings that are not allowing the other workstaions from accessing the servers shared drives...
Ive seen it before.. just am stumped on how i fixed it prev.

The other win98 workstations all have access to each others drives (All win 98) as does the Windows 2000 server PC but does not allow the win 98 stations to view contents on the server...
Hmmm actually sounds more confusing than it is!!

Thanks for your help

Josh,
can you please tell me if you are running a domain
giving me those details don't get me anywhere or you anywhere

i do not know what exactly you are running structurely

Hung

To stop getting the "you must supply a password to make the connection "\\dis\IPC$" from the Windows 2000 computer, you must set up a user on it and then log on to your Windows 98 computers using the user name and password that you have set up. This will give you access to the Windows 2000 computer. N.B. Windows 2000 requires a password, unlike Win98. Ed

You need to setup users on the server for each workstation even if you don't have a password you still need to be able to assign rights.
