I have 2 HP printers installed via TCP/IP on a win2K
Server. One has a jetdirect card the other uses a D-Link
print server. My workstations use WindowsXP and Office
XP. until recently both printers worked OK, but lately
both are experiencing the same problem, Excel worksheets
and Word tables do not print correctly. I have completely
uninstalled one of the printers (hp 2300), including
removing the drivers, restarting the server and then
reinstalling. I have also downloaded several versions of
the dirver; No change in problem. If I install the
printers on the workstations and print to a local TCP/IP
port everything print correctly.

I would appreciate any ideas!

Thanks,
.

hughn,
Does everything else print correctly? Are you the only one that uses the printers?
I have a hp 1220c design jet that does not like to be used on a jet direct. This is what I have done too get around my printing problem. There are only 4 users that use the printer, so my solution is not that time intensive.

1. Keep the printer on the Jet direct
2. Install the printer locally (In Windows, not directly)
3. Create a cmd file.
a. Example file
net use lpt1: /d
net use lpt1: \\servername\printershare

4. run the cmd file
5. Print

If you have a lot of users using the printer this may not be practical. I hope this helps or at least points you in the right direction.

tables do not print correctly - What does this mean? How are they not printing correctly. More information may yield more and better answers.

Printing is OK when printing from a workstation directly to the TCP/IP address of the printer. The problem occurs when printing using the shared printer on the server. In other words, the printer is shared on the server and normally you would install the shared printer from the server to the workstation. However, when using the printer in this way MS Word documents that contain tables do not print correctly, the print seens to be expanded and column overlap. I am experiencing this same problem in MS Excel. As stated above, if I create a TCP/IP port on the workstation and install the printer on the workstation using this port (bypassing the server), documents print perfectly.

Thanks, I appreciate your replys and assistance.

Have you got the latest office xp and win xp service packs installed?

Have you got the most up-to-date driver? If yes, try a slightly older one.

How does the page look in print preview?
