I have been having problem connect to a network printer on a HP unix server. I create a network printer and set the name \\myserver\myprinter but XP dosen´t seem to find the printer. This works fine in Windows98 but dosen´t work in XP. Does anybody know a solution to this problem

One solution is to add it as a local printer instead of network and create a new port using Standard TCP/IP and input the IP address IF it has a built in Network card. IF it is slaved of the server using a Parallel cable then we will need to work on Samba to figure out the issue. Is it slaved or does it have its own Network card? James Collins

The printer is connected to HP jetdirect 500X which is connected to our network. Is it possible to connect to straight to Jetdirect rather then using que on our HP unix machine

I suggest using the Jet Direct IP address to connect the XP machine to the printer. This will resolve any issues associated with Samba printer sharing. James Collins
