So much information, so little space.

We have a network, 10 PC's, 2 hp 2300dn laser prters (BW1 & BW2), 1 3700dn color (CLR).
WinXP Pro.

Printers have assigned ip addys. We couldn't install the prters using windows, it didn't "see" them, printers installed using the installation CD.

While looking at the printer configs (properties) the "name" seems to change. Recently, the BW1 prter name was changed to CLR,BW1. Now, no matter what prter is "Selected to print" to, the print goes to the color prter. Eventually the names change and then will only print to theB&W.
This has happened three times now. The first two, I just deleted the printers and re-installed them.

Could this be problems in the registry?

Has anyone else seen this?

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA,

Dave

sdrtvl,

10 PC's??? What type of network are you running.

What device are you using for the Printer IP, i.e. onboard or third party?

You can see the printers to select one to print to correct??

Are you trying to use a IP device on a workgroup network peer-to-peer(P2P) or a Full fledged domain server?

Found the problem. While installing the printers on the pc's, the install CD wanted to decide what names the printers would have, I over-rode that and entered the names manually.
After about a week of operation, all the PC's were having trouble printing to the "Selected" printer. We un-installed all the printers on all the pc's and started over.

To make a long story short, the registry had numerous names and ip's assigned to the three printers.

I went deep into the registry, deleted any and all printer and printer operation values. I then used a windows "work around" (rather then the installation CD) and manually entered and added the printers.

Working fine, no mis-directed prints, no print error messages etc.
