network POS receipt printer setup

We are on SCO Openserver rel5. I have set up several printers using HPJetDirects and they work fine. I am trying to setup an Epson TMH6000II point of sale receipt printer using either HPJetDirect or D-link print server. I can print to this printer from a windows pc attached to the network. I can ping from unix using either the TCP-IP or the printer name. I have entered the tcp-ip and name in /etc/hosts. I have set up the priner in scoadmin using /dev/null. However, when I try to print to the printer from Unix, nothing prints. It looks like the signal is getting all the way to the printer, but no printing. Does anyone have a suggestion?

The hpnp package requires that the print server enables the port 9100 *and* snmp.

Thanks. I read in another thread about changing the lines in the interface file and I'll try that.
The HP printers that I set up before worked without having to do anything extra. Why is this one wanting the port 9100 enabled?

I have added the portno=9100 to the interface file. When i go to print the test file from HP network manager, it gives me a message:
"Checking that xxx.com is on the printer's access list...
/usr/lib/hpnp/cfg/canaccess printername
Printer access test failed. Add xxx.com to the printer's access list before continuing."
What and where is the printer access list?

My first question is:
1. When you print to the epson from windows, what protocol is it using (smb, lpd, ?)

Personally I stay away from hpnp, use lpd or install samba for smb access.

The windows port is HP standard TCP-IP.

currently, the hpjetdirect is hooked up. But I have tried both and get the same results.
I have used the hpjetdirect on hplaserjet printers and it works well. Just add a printer, add entry to /etc/hosts and configure the jetdirect. I did that this time, but couldn't get the printer to print (and it is an EPSON receipt printer, not a HPlaserjet). So, I decided to try the d-link, but it didn't work either.
I have gotten the printer to print a test file from the hp network printer manager. but I can't print from the command line.
Also, I changed printers and same thing. so, have I messed up some file in unix, with all the adding a printer, deleting a printer, changing the interface file, etc.?

Is your printer defined in

/etc/printcap

and/or in

/usr/spool/lpd

?
If so, remove these references because hpnp don't use remote printing.
