network neighborhood in 95?

does 95 have network neighborhood? and if not is there some other way that i could transfer files to this computer over my lan? this is an ancient laptop (133 mhz p1) and the cdrom doesn't work and I would like to transfer some things over to it. i haven't used 95 in so long, i'm lost.

Win95 did have Network Neighborhood but it may not have been installed with the 'portable' or 'minimal' installation. I don't know if it was on the floppies. I use a portable parallel-port Zip drive, hard drive, or CD drive for things like what you need. Do check for a folder called C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. That's where the 'brands' put the required setup files from the Windows CD. Then go into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup tab, and see if you can add Network Neighborhood.

yeah i don't see it there, i guess i'll look to see if i can find a 3rd party intranet file sharer...crappy laptop

network neighborhood should show up as soon as you add the network card in CP/network. If the card is there but no neighborhood, delete the card and add it back in. Ed Fair

Actually, it's the Client for Microsoft Networks component that controls the presence of Network Neighborhood.

Go to Control Panel -> Network and add the "client". If it's already there, then someone might have set policies on this pc to hide the icon from the desktop.

You say you're part of a LAN, so I would imagine this client is already installed. If you know the computer name of the pc you're trying to access, then you can go to Start -> Run and type \\CN (where CN is the computer name) and hit enter.

The computer name can be found under the Identification tab in the Network properties window.
