Hi,
I have a 8 computer peer to peer network. I have Internet connection sharing between a designated windows xp pro computer and the rest of the computers. All 8 run Windows XP Pro. Today I added a computer running Windows 2K pro. All 9 computers are connected with one problem, 1 of the computers refuses to connect to the new 2K Pro machine. I can ping both ways. Both computers connect to everyone else. I have rebooted several times the entire network.
Why can the 2000 Pro be connected to everyone else except this one XP Pro machine?
And if I can ping both ways, why don't they appear in network places?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

In what way? Can you map a drive to it? You don't have to browse to the pc, you can just enter
\\pcName\share
In the Folder field.
Just because it hasn't shown up in Network Places yet doesn't mean much. Give it more time.

I tried to map to it like you have indicated and could not. The problem is that I need to use a print share on the one xp pro that doesn't connect to it. I played with it all morning. Can't say as I have ever had to wait longer than a couple of reboots. How much time do you suggest?

I have waited as long as a full day for clients to show up in Network Places. However, I could always map to them almost instantly.
Can you ping by name or only by IP? If you can ping by name I don't have anything else to suggest (I'm not that good with windows).

On the Win2k machine:

Start, Run, net user Guest /Active:yes

On the XP Pro print server, create a new username with password that matches the username and password of the Win2k computer user logon.

Restart and test again.

try disconnecting one that works fine, and then try connecting to the XP Pro in question. Now does it work? If so, this would tell me that workgroups are limited to 8 computers...

Hi thanks for replying but isn't a peer to peer up to 10 computers?
I heard there was a simple script to extend a peer to peer beyond even the 10 limit. If so I would love to know.
Are you suggesting that there may be a setting I could change?
