Xp pro desktops connecting to windows 2000 domain server have to attempt logons serveral times before connecting to network has been a problem with Dell units and several white boxes , can't find a solution on Microsoft site ,all have updates. This problem seems to happen on a random bases

Thanks for the huge amount of information.
1. Is this happening to all machines on the domain or only a specific type?
2. Is it the same machines all the time that its happening to?
3. Has this been happening all the time to these specific machines?
4. If its only happening to a specific type /make of machine have you got the most uptodate NIC drivers installed?(although i doubt this is is issue)
5. Is it only happening to particuliar user accounts?

This is happening only to the XP Pro machines, it is happening to the same machines and also has occured on one new machine that we joined to the domain, it started first in the dell units and we thought it could be just a problem with them ,and yes we checked the drivers on the nics , but now it has occured in a white box that we just built, wondering if there is an issue with possible certificate lease.

Also need to add it is not a particuliar user that is having this problem and on some days this problem does not ,it is not happening on any 98se desktops or any 2000 machines

I have some comments on XP as client on Win2k domains that may help.

They are "different", different even from Win2k clients. I hope my comments help: faq779-4017

Are there any error messages showing up in the event logs of the client or server and if there are what are they?

You have a DNS issue.
faq779-4017

Sections 2.

You may have a logon script issue, or a network adapter issue. Section 3, and update your NIC drivers.

faq779-4017

Unless you make changes for your local DNS server this issue will not go away for Windows XP clients.
