I just installed solaris 8.0. when I tried to download anything on the internet. it gave me this error" network error: I/O error". do you guys know why it's doing it.

Is your NIC configured? what is the output of `ifconfig -a`?

The nic is working; otherwise, I'd not be able to go online. the output of ifconfig -a gives this:
eri0 flags: a number <up, broadcast, running, multiline> mtu 1500
followed by my ip etc..

Check your /var/adm/messages to see if any (other) problems highlighted. Also have you added Solaris 8 patches after installation?

Do you have the file /etc/defaultrouter set up? Make sure you netmask matches the netmask for your subnet.

Is this a Netscape error? I would check your DNS settings and /etc/nsswitch.conf.
