We have defined a standard format box set-up for the figures in the network diagram so that all network diagrams will look the same.
We now want to use the general style settings for tasks/milestones/summaries (critical and non-critical) to be applied for all users.

Users however have already defined their own user specific format boxes for tasks, milestones etc. And they have them already applied on the existig plan(s).
How can we quickly get rid of these user settings and use the general style settings in the network diagram without having to edit (re-define) every single figure?

The short answer is: you cannot.

The long answer is: you can but your changes won't be "sticky" and can be easily overridden.

Project displays are extremely customizable and each display holds the attributes that are both common and unique. Gantt, for example, "out of the box" has a blue bar for tasks.

In Project:
View > Gantt
Format > Bar styles
make any changes you want

Now "Gantt" is uniquely defined.

So ... create a blank project with the views you want (Gantt being one of them). Customize the bars display so that it shows just the columns you want; customize the Gantt chart so that it is formatted exactly the way you want.

Save the File (Let's call your file "DefaultLayout") so you can always access your custom-tailored default display.

In Project:
Window > "DefaultLayout" file
View > Resource Sheet

Open the user projectfile
View > Resource Sheet

You have to select a view that you are NOT going to update. "Resource Sheet" seemed to be the easiest.

Tools > Organizer > Views-tab
This displays the Organizer popup.
In the bottom left, select your "DefaultLayout" file
In the bottom right, select the user projectfile
In the box of views for "DefaultLayout" click on Gantt
Click on the "Copy >>" button
Click on "yes" in the warning message
Close the Organizer popup
Save the user projectfile

Lather, rinse, repeat.

When the users open their own files and select the Gantt view they will get the display you created and they will, in all probability, promptly customize it and overwrite your efforts.

Thanks PDQBach , yes it's extra work but it is the only way I guess.....
