Small NT Server LAN, have established communication between all Servers but one. This Server can Ping others and be pinged, by either name or IP. it shows up in the Network Neighborhood and is properly defined in Server anager. Running TCP/IP as a protocol with Static IP addtresses. DNS/WINS services are being provided by the PDC. Yet files cannot be accessed on this one Server from any other Server. Attempts to access any folders/files on this Server result in the File Manager locking up. Attempts to copy a file 'from' that Server to another result in the message "Unexpected Network Error". However, a file 'has' been copied from another Server 'to' that Server.

Any ideas?

I always start with the basics. Ensure no two machines have the same network address. As silly as it sounds check for number errors or spaces in the addressing :) Check your event log for any type of Comm errors. Check the cables, swap cards. Is this a 10 / 100 Lan? If so are the cards set to auto negotiate or manual settings? Worst comes to worse, blow the TCP / IP stack and re-install it fresh. Gotta run late for bowling, hope this helps if not hollar at what the above helps if any and we can go fropm there.

DOH change port connections too!
The Geek

Dont be afraid to share what you know. There are no losers in our arena, only self rightous monkeys atop their own tree.

just a thought did u check and make sure the server service is up and running...

>Ensure no two machines have the same network address.
Done, not it.

>Check your event log for any type of Comm errors
All I'm getting in the Event log is a timeout

>Check the cables
Done, not it.

>swap cards
Unfortunately this is a 'converted' PC in a small Lab, and it happens to be a Dell Optiplex, which had their NICs built into motherboad. I was hoping not to have to switch the whole board out...but it's looking like that might be the case.

>Is this a 10 / 100 Lan? If so are the cards set to auto negotiate or manual settings
Yes, and they are set to Auto. this same box was connected to our production LAN as an NT Workstation for a couple years without incident. Only change has been to be rebuilt as NT Server, no applications added at this point.

>blow the TCP / IP stack and re-install it fresh
Well, depends upon your meaning here. I have deleted and readded the NIC, reinstalling drivers...no help.

Thanks for the ideas, much appreciated. Still looking for the answer though. About to give it up to a Bench Technician in company, but know I most likely won't get it back for weeks if I do that...any more ideas?

...Harry
