Network card line speed settings for gigabit cards?

Dear all,

We have an Intel(R) PRO/1000 XT Server Adapter Network card.

This is a Gigabit card on a Windows 2000 server on a IBM x345 server.

Within the configuration of the network card, the card is set to auto detect the line speed and duplex mode. We wish to force this to 1000mbps/Full Duplex.

However, there is no option for this. The highest is only 100mbps/Full Duplex.

Why and what do i need to do to set this.

If Intel does not have a driver that lets you set this you may just have to go with the auto setting. Seems the software has not advanced as fast as the hardware. I think if you have two gigabit cards talking to each other they will autonegotiate the speed for themselves.

I will arrange for an updated driver to be installed for the NIC. (If at all possible.)

Our Comms guys have set the CISCO switches to 1000mbps/Full Duplex and with the card set to auto, causes some errors.

I'll bet you can set this in the registry. Windows just doesn't have a setting set up for this.
