Hello fellow Mac users...

I am currently looking for some network attached storage devices to use on our local home network. We have several Macs (running OSX 10.4.x) and several Windows machines (32bit XP SP2) - so I'm after something that both platforms will be able to access. I'm keen to support RAID level 1 (mirrored) as well (there is no pleasing me it seems).

I've taken a peek into the Apple Store and it doesn't appear like they do anything of the sort (which is a shame).

I was interested in the Netgear SC101 devices (good price and a brand I use a lot) - but they do not support Macs (and there is no news of this changing in the near future).

Does anyoone have a suggestion or a recommendation that would be appropriate for a home network (wired to the hub, shared over WiFi)?

Thanks guys,
Jeff

It appears that the reason my iTunes library wouldn't load up was because 1 of the folder names contained brackets!

Unfortuately it was one of the last ones in the list so it took me some time to find it by a process of elimination.

Seems to be working now!

Saying that, I just found some others with brackets.

Perhaps it was the length of the name.

Either way, I removed the brackets and so shortened the name on 1 folder and everything now works properly

Yay!
I know it sometimes chokes on 'funny' characters, so I was surprised when iTunes inserted kanji characters for my Shonen Knife CD on ripping it. Bear Firefly in mind when you fancy a play or someone you know gets a different NAS with media 'issues'.

Hmmm, the problems haven't ended.

Although I can now see the music library from any iTunes on my network I can't play anything.
If I select something to play it shows that exclamation mark next to the name as if it can't find the file.

Argh.

I'm tempted to start hacking the thing so I can install Firefly etc but I'm a bit worried about bricking it.
