Hello we have a computer on our network that is doing some weird things to us.

First thing its doing is randomly it will show the entire network correctly then it will go down to where it will only show 1 computer on the network and you cannot access or see any of the other pc's on the network.

2nd thing its doing is that we have a mapped drive to our servers data folder. Usually when it stops seeing the network you can still access this folder however it will not allow you to write to any of the sub folders. I have changed the user rights to Domain Admin, Administrator and every other user name I could find. Still doesnt seem to work. If I log onto another pc with the same user they are able to function normally.

I have tried to un-install the network card / rebooted / reinstalled and same thing happens. Tried to installed a different nic but still no change.

Im at a loss as to what may be causing it. Could there be a policy issue within 2003 server that may be doing it? Wasn't sure if I should post this in the 2003 forum or an xp forum for I really dont know what the cause is on my dilema.

Any guidance would be greatly apprecaited.

XP home doesn't support adding to a domain. It's not designed to be used in a client/server environment.

Good to know - the company I work for doesnt like to spend alot of money so 98% of the pc's here are XP Home - there is only 1 maybe 2 that are actually XP Pro. Im thinking it may be the PC with XP Home on it because I tried to log into another computer and the rights are fine and the user name in question can access things with no problems. So now i'll have to hunt down as to why its doing what its doing and if all else fails just rebuild teh box and start it over from scratch.

First thing we tell clients when we go in to install a server is that ALL XP Home machines have to be upgraded before we deploy the server.

XP Home is what you end up with when the user sees a cool computer at Best Buy instead of asking the IT person what to do.
