I have a W2K box running ArcServe 2000. I have the Netware Client Agent installed on a Netware 4.11 server with SP9. The box is a Dell Poweredge 2450 with Dual 733 processors.

When I started the backup using IPX, the server hangs and ultimately freezes...no abend...

This only occurs when I start the backup routine.

I have searched both CA and Novell for the symptoms, however, nothing has been useful.

Any suggestions?

What versions of TSA411.NLM and TSANDS.NLM are you running? Are there any errors in the NWAgent log? -----------------------------------------------------

No unusual messages in the nwagent log...

Just the request from the backup server and disable file estimate and then backup the volumes

The TSA versions are
TSANDS V 4.18
TSA410 V 4.17

Are both NetWare and W2K server forced to a specific network speed/duplex and are they both the same? (not auto-negotiate) -----------------------------------------------------

Ok, are they configured for the same IPX frame (ie. Ethernet 802.2)?

Another thing you could try is forcing your servers to 100mb Half-Duplex. It may be that the NetWare server is getting duff info from the W2K server by virtue of a routing issue running at Full Duplex? -----------------------------------------------------

Are you running any virus scanners as well (on either server)? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

We run at Ethernet_II I will try throttling them down to 100mb half and see if that makes a difference. I have not put up a virus package until i get this resolved.

Thanks for the input...I will keep you posted with the results.

ETHERNET_II is the frame type used for IP. You should have ETHERNET_802.2 bound for IPX. Can you tell us what bindings you do have on your server (just do a CONFIG from the server console) -----------------------------------------------------
