Netware backup failing

I have a Netware backup failing very quickly with the following error in the Client log file:
"Unable to determine proper focus for x.x.x.x" (I have replaced the IP address of the Netware server with x.x.x.x).
The Netware server uses a HOSTS file which seems OK. Configuration of Network cards also seems OK. Has anyone seen this before?

Have you tried using Data Interface Pairs? You can designate the the adapter by the IP address.

Indeed I tried that but it didn't work unfortunately.
