Well here is the scenario,

Trying to restore 3 gig of data from Arcserve 2000 SP 3 server to Netware 5.1 SP3 box. Backed up the data using NWagent and IP fine and fast(400 MB/Min). Well restoring is another story. I only get 6 MB/Min with IP. Arcserve patched to highest levels and virus scanning off.
Knowing that IPX is ussally faster for restores I go to change the agent to IPX and it will not connect. I know I have used IPX in the past to do testing on what worked better IP/IPX. I'm sure I have the internal IPX address right and am using valid full context username/password. Have rebooted both server(And tried 2 other Netware servers and another Arcserve 2000 with no luck), reved down a version of NWagent and I still can not log into the agent using IPX.
I am thinking that one of the recent patches broke IPX since I know that IPX worked mid-January(It is in my logs). Any suggestions?

I know there is a new tech bulletin to speed up IP restores, but I am not yet comfortable shutting off Nagle Algorithm. And I know that IPX worked!!!!

Anyone else have this problem? Or offer any suggestions? Please help.

Regards,
Mike

We had the same problem at our customer side.
I posted it about 2 Month ago but no solution.
It was definitelly SP3. Our customer had to reinstall,
aplly SP2 and IPX is ok. Doesn´t matter what version
of NWclient or MS-Client for Netware.

I have heard (but not tested) that installing AS2000
and applying SP3 directly (without SP2 before) should
be ok???

We tested different versions of the NWAGENT but no difference:

SP2 : IPX and IP OK
SP3 : only IP

Thanks you very much for the confirmation. It was driving me crazy. I tried working on it for about 6 hours and still could not get IPX working. Glad/Sad to know that other people are having problems.

It is now official the CA has no clue for NWagent. Two years and they still can't get a simple agent to work right, and even what finctionality they have they seem to like to break along the way with the brilliant "patches".

Mike

I agree 100% we too are experiencing the upgrade to NW5SP4 issue with NWAGENT abending a 5.1 server. I have back rev'd and still no luck. I am convinced that CA really don't have a clue as to fix this problem permanently.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

JR28,

Have you tried the NWAGENT found here
CA directed me to it once in Feb. and it fixed an abend issue I was having on a 5.1 server. Recently it has been pulled due to "issues in some enviroments" but since it is the only agent that works on one of my boxes I continue to use it on that box only.

Regards,
Mike

Got this support "idea" from CA. Haven't tried it so don't know if it works.

Hi ,
Please try this.
- Unload the agent nlm.
- delete the nwagent folder from the server.
- Reinstall the agent of netware agian.
- Add the objec again and then use the ipx for communicating.
- Also check the doc
-

If you have further questions in regards to the same issue, please
feel free to update .
Thanks a bunch and have a great day.

Just a followup / Info

Our customer is using an ADIC SCALAR 100 LTO Library,
Backup server AS2000 SP2 (WIN NT 4.0), Netware 6 SERVER all
connected via GBit Switch.

Yesterday we had to restore ca. 100GB it worked perfect
(ca. 800MB / Min --> ca. 45GB/h). We use IPX...
We modified the remote buffer settings according to CA
internet doks.

Regards, Otto
