Hi all, I'm a newbie to Netware and recently being assign to troubleshoot a intermittent logon problem for Netware 5.1.

Here is the problem I'm facing :
Clients intermittent can logon to the Server...but when try to re-login again...it unable to locate the TREE(Something like that).

And I'm totally no idea how to start for the troubleshooting.

Urgently need advice from all.

Million of thanks in advance.

Thanks and Regards

Are you running IP only or running it with IPX? If IP only, try ensuring that the server IP address is in the SERVER field on the Advanced section of the Client

Are users logging in full context? If not, does this happen when they log in in full context?

Hi all, thanks for the reply.
Hi TheLad....I have found out both IP and IPX is running on the Netware Server. All Client also have both Protocol. IP is used to access Internet and Access POP3 Mail.

Hi Chuckg0413, all Clients/Users are logging in Full context.

Any advice for me?? :(

thanks in advance.

Thanks and Regards

1st run DSREPAIR - UNATTENDED FULL REPAIR at the console, then read Attempt to "ping" the server. If you cannot ping it, that means that you have a protocol configuration problem, not a netware problem. Run ping after loging out and attempting to relog in. Sounds like DHCP is established at server level and assigning address on different network from server.

Are these laptop users by any chance? I have a real intermittent problem on my own machine, whereby it won't always login to NetWare unless the network cable is plugged in at startup time.

HOw many servers do you have? Are there any WAN links involved?

With regard to laptops, Fujitsu Lifebook laptops do not want to see the network unless the network cable is plugged in prior to power up. This is apparently a "feature" of the laptop to conserve power.

Under the advanced tab, check the tree and server context.
