Need to upgrade 4.11/4.2 servers to Netware 5.1. Are there any suggested upgrade paths / pitfalls to be aware of? I think the tree is being rebuilt as well...fun..fun
I would appreciate any hints or tips on this one. Thank you.

Bring the schema in from a server in another tree before upgrading. Build a new server in a dummy tree, import the schema into your production tree. Remove NDS from the dummy and install it into the production tree. Make it a R/W of ROOT. let it sync over the weekend. Promote to master. Let it sync for a while, then go ahead and upgrade. Do the ROOT ring first.

I've had better luck doing inplace upgrades than using the migration tools. Others have had the opposite results. I think if you get the schema imported and the root replica as 5 you'll be O.K. either way.

If you will be using TCP/IP, plan and build your SLP structure. While this is not as important if you have 1 or 2 servers, it is especially important if you have WAN connections.

Best book I have found is available from podbooks.com,
Guide to Service Location Protocol, Silvia Hagen. This is a short read but very complete.

PS:
1) If you have the memory set "Maximum Physical Recieve Packet Size" to 4500.
2) If you are not using Ethernet_II frame type for IPX, switch before the migration. Youll be happy you did.
