I am adding a 4.11 server to an already existant 3.12 novel network. Only problem is that I cant get the computers (win95) to even find the new server. Any suggestions?

Hi
i take it both servers can see each other? what client version are the win95 pc's using?, if you are using the windows client for netware, that will only allow you to login as admin only. if your using an advanced novell client try specifying the context and also frame rate. also in the client under advanced there is an option to tell it to look for NDS before BINDERY or just NDS. i have found when been installing pc's onto a novell 4.11 n/w that if i'm having problems at least one of the above will solve it.

hope this helps

I'm new to this and consider myself lucky I even got it installed. I don't think the two servers can see each other. Could it be that the I am testing the new server on a hub and not the main switch where the 3.12 server is. I am using the Novell Netware client for Windows. When I go to network neghborhood in windows, under the servers folder there is the 2 existing 3.12 servers but not new one.

it is possible that the hub is the reason, if the network card in your new server is a 10/100mb and your switch is 10/100, it could be that your hub is only capable of 10mb, that would cause it not to be seen on the network. try plugging the new server into the switch? also are your network numbers the same on both servers? on either of the servers at the system console screen you can type i.e server_name:display servers that will tell you if they can see each other. on the novell 4.11 operating system CD there are some proper novell intranetware clients for win95/98, i'm not to sure exactly where they are though since i don't have a cd to hand, what you need to do is run the setup from the directory and run a typical install, once rebooted and the login screen is showing click advanced and you should be able to click on the tree and context buttons and see the server.

From the Netware console (SERVER NAME:) you can type in DISPLAY SERVERS and/or DISPLAY NETWORKS. You will see the MAC address and the network number of all servers on your network. This will at least tell you if the servers are communicating with each other. This will help you to rule out the hub (or not). If you see the other server, you know that traffic is passing through the hub. If not it could be your problem (but failure of this test doesn't prove that your problem IS the hub).
