After you run a netstat command and find a port# you think is suspect, how can you shut it down?

Ports are opened by programs. You have to find which program (or service) is opening it and stop it there. Using the -o switch will show you the process ID of the port owner.

sysinternals.com has good utilities to help you find more information also.

What ports are open, you should be able to see see a process or program attached to it and just shut that down to close it. But with out a full firewall running it will make it hard to close all ports

thanks. i thought i could just kill the connection from the command line. i will go through the firewall.
