Hello all. I have a very strange problem. I am creating a web page with a list of about 1500 rows in a table. The entire web page is about 2.3mb (yes, it's HUGE, but people view it on their corporate network). It loads in under 30 seconds in IE 5.5. However, it takes over 6 minutes to load in NS 6.2. I did notice that the top of the table loads extremely quickly on the screen, but the more rows it loads, the slower it gets. Why is Netscape so slow and how can I make it faster???

Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Thanks,

Steve

Post a row or two of the table - there may be a way to optimise the table to make it smaller. It won't explain why netscape is so pants, but it could help. Derren

Put the results on multiple pages if the clients browser is netscape. You could just span them out with "pages" using a querystring...

Hello Steve,

There is an interesting concept in software development called usability. What earthly good is there to listing 1500 items anywhere? Give people tools, not work.

I agree.

Use paging. Imagine your users have to access the table over the dial-up for some reason...

Also, some browsers have crashed on me in the past (on Win98) when too much information is passed, so it's not a good idea to do that.

Here's a great resourse on paging (which I use on almost any page that has more than 10-20 results returned):

Hope this helps <Dmitriy>
