Hello All,
I am unable to log in to the Netscape Directory Server console. I set it up from the Cognos Supplemental CD by chosing the option to Install and Configure Netscape Dir. Server (which sets up everything for you). I launch the console, and enter the default ID and pass given in the installation guide and the Admin Url, which should be (I think?). However when I try this I get an error message of ""cannot connect to admin server " The url is not correct or the server is not running"". Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks,
David

David,

To logion there you must check serval things:

Check the domainname of the computer where netscape is installed And check also the portnumber you used.

These settings must be the same as the settings you used in the configuration manager.

if you did a default installation the URL looks as follows:

In theorie you don't need to open that application because Access Manager reads and write for you in the directory server.

Good luck

Hello,

I came across the same problem when I installed NDS from the supplementary Software CD.
Instead of using the default and installing to C: I chose to install to another drive (E: our software drive). I could not get the NDS console to open at all but Access Manager worked fine.
I went back and looked at where the files were after the install and noticed that NDS automatically installs certain files on C: even though you choose another drive. It seemed that when I was trying to launch the console, it couldn't fine the file it needed.
I uninstalled NDS and re-installed it on C: and everything worked fine after that.
Hope this helps.

Interesting point JMiller13 about re-installing NDS. Did you lose all your User/User class information when you re-intsalled NDS? We're also staring down the barrel of a possible re-install.

Before re-installing NDS, I exported my User list to an .lae file in Access Manager. You do this by right-clicking on your namespace under your Directory Server and choose to Export to .lae file. Add an .LAE file to the list, save it and choose to empty the target namespace. This just saves everything.
After you re-install NDS, you can re-create your namespace in Access Manager and then import your User list from your .lae file.

The problem is the administration port for the administration console. The installation procedure pick a random number between 4999 and 50000. I always choose 9999 to get connected to administration port. If you donot recall the portnumber you should use a port monitoring tool like Active Ports (a cool freeware tool which you can download from displays the port where the Netscape Adminstration Console runs ons. If you have the portnumber then you have to enter that at the end of the connection URL and it should startup. Default username is admin and the default password is admin1234
