Does anyone know how to cause netscape 7 to link to Groupwise 6 email so that when you click on an mailto: link the groupwise email window is launched?

Try this (works for Groupwise 5):

1. Create a text file containg the following:

user_pref("network.protocol-handler.external.mailto", true);
user_pref("applications.mailto","path\grpwise.exe");
user_pref("applications.mailto.host", "%username%@%host%");

(don't forget to change 'path' to your correct path)

2. Save the file as user.js

3. Put the file in your Netscape profile directory (same place as prefs.js and your bookmark file)

4. Restart Netscape

Mailto links should now launch Groupwise.

Thanks for the response.
I tried this with Netscape 7 and GW 6.
I could tell that netscape was reading the user.js file, because it rejected the file when an illegal character was inserted.
But it does not yield the desired result.
I don't believe this is a GW issue; I think it is a Netscape settings problem.
Are you using netscape 4.x, 6.x or 7
Would be interested to know whether anyone has made this work with Netscape 6 or 7.
Thanks.

Hmm, works fine for me with Netscape 7 and Groupwise 5. I don't have Groupwise 6 to test it on. Maybe someone else out there could give it a go?

I've tried a million different variations without success.
Would definitely be interested to hear if anyone has accomplished this objective with Netscape7 and GW6, so I can decide whether to keep at this.

I have the answer. At last.
When you install Netscape, choose the custom install.
Then refuse the mail selection in the custom install.
When you do this, Netscape uses windows default mailer.
It is as simple as that.
Thanks for your help.
