Netscape 7 email charchters garbled while composing. OS9

I'm having a problem with Netscape 7. When my user is composing email on his G4 running OS 9.2.2, as long as he types in a continous stream, everything is fine. If, however, he makes a mistake and needs to back up to correct an error, the fonts on the screen get wonky. It will backspace and delete half of a letter, or two letters but not the third, etc.

This error ONLY happens while composing email. Typing in any other program works fine, as does typing into the browser window.

Any ideas?
